*Herodotus was a historian in the ancient Greek . He is known for having written the book The Histories which is a detailed record of his research on the origins of the Greco-Persian Wars. He is widely considered to have been the first scholar to have presented historical subjects using systematic historical investigation through rigorous collecting of related materials and then critically arranging them into an historiographic narrative. Thus, he is often referred to as "The Father of History".  

Histories contains a wealth of information though he has been criticized for the fact that the book includes many myths and fanciful accounts. Herodotus has been have accused of making up stories for entertainment. However, he stood by his claim that he merely wished to report what he had seen or had been told . A sizable portion of the information that Herodotus provided has since been confirmed by historians and archaeologists till date.
